Millions of tons of e-waste are generated worldwide every year, and the number of discarded devices is constantly increasing. Mobile phones, TVs, computers and washing machines contain a lot of valuable materials and are in high demand.
When processing electrical and electronic waste, the goal is to obtain secondary raw materials that are as pure as possible, marketable and free of hazardous substances. At the beginning of the process, the waste needs to be broken down. JHT recycling technology is ideally suited to this job.
JHT offers single machines for special process steps and complete systems for recycling e-waste, ranging from small household appliances to entire photovoltaic systems.
Small household appliances
Small household appliances include vacuum cleaners, kitchen appliances, hair clippers, irons, toasters, barbecues and hair dryers. Their heterogeneity requires the use of our coarse material handling machine RAPAX. When the feed material reaches the rated size, it falls. It is then subjected to the necessary compound disintegration by a rotor mill (RS type) and finely pre-processed into homogeneous fractions by a rotor impact mill (RPMV type). Rotary shears (VR type) and universal pulverizers (NGU type) can be used for the splitting.
Large household appliances
To accommodate an entire dishwasher, washing machine or cooker, you need a powerful machine: Due to its special knife geometry, our RAPAX is suitable for the initial shredding of extremely heavy or bulky materials. Subsequently, the rotor shredder (RS type) takes care of the breakdown of composite materials, laying the foundation for the sorted recycling of raw materials.
Cables and circuit boards
The coarse shredding with the rotary shear (VR type) reduces even thick cable bundles to a particle size of about 100 mm in length. The universal shredder (NGU type) continues the shredding to 10 – 20 mm. Compounds are also largely broken down at this stage. The rotor impact shredder (RPMX type) is ideal for the optional third shredding stage. Especially thin wires, such as telephone cables, are ground and shaped into balls.
Circuit boards consist of insulating materials such as plastic or cardboard.
The rotary shear (VR type) is a low-speed, high-torque twin-shaft shredder suitable for pre-shredding such electrical components. For the second shredding stage, the universal shredder (NGU type) is the preferred machine: The high-speed single-shaft shredder cuts the material to the desired particle size. The rotor impact shredder (RPMX type) is suitable for further separation of compound materials.
Lithium-ion batteries
In order to shred batteries and accumulators safely and environmentally friendly, they must first be discharged. We use rotary shears (VR type) and universal shredders (NGU type) for shredding. If the batteries have not been subjected to a high-temperature thermal process, sparks generated in the machine could cause the electrolyte to ignite. To eliminate this risk, both machines are designed to be airtight for this special application and work under nitrogen.
Photovoltaic equipment
The recycling of the raw materials of used photovoltaic equipment is of particular interest: it consists of glass, aluminum, copper, precious metals and polymer materials.
In order to recycle these raw materials, the photovoltaic modules must pass through a series of crushers:
First, the RAPAX reduces the volume of the bulky feed material. A subsequent rough crushing step then takes place in a rotary shear (VR type).
